Have you found your WHY yet?

Faith, Finances, Health, RelationshipsBy adminSeptember 22, 2016Leave a comment

So you failed to stick with your last diet, huh? And your New Year’s resolution to shape up your language didn’t really stick. How about missing the goal of cutting back time spent on your smartphone? You feel like a quitter. Or that you’re the kind of person who just can’t change. Well, if you…

The difference between an ordeal and an adventure is attitude

Blog, RelationshipsBy adminAugust 17, 2016Leave a comment

I can’t say that I’ve learned this lesson, but I am in the process of figuring out something profound in my life. Let me back up and mention that I’m ten days into a 16-day family road trip where we packed four kids (ages 7, 4, 2, and 4 months!) into the van and drove from…

I’ll talk about something others don’t

Blog, RelationshipsBy adminJuly 13, 2016Leave a comment

Welcome! Hey, today I’m going to get dirty with a lesson that I had to learn…and continue to learn over, and over, and over. I don’t hear people talking about this, even though it’s a really big deal. So I’m gonna go there. I’m snatching the remote right out of your hand and clicking onto…

If you want to be respected, be respectable

Blog, RelationshipsBy adminJune 8, 20162 Comments

If James Bond and Tommy Boy started giving advice at the same time, who would you listen to? This week all we’re doing is taking a look in the mirror and asking ourselves one simple question: Would I listen to someone who talks and dresses like me? This has nothing to do with vanity or…

I welcomed my fourth kid into the world this week! My beautiful wife and handsome new son are happy and healthy, and we are adapting to the new reality of having four kids. This time reminds me that this child, all children, are gifts given to us in trust by God. We have the opportunity…

On staying above reproach

Blog, RelationshipsBy adminMarch 31, 2016Leave a comment

Let’s look at a simple, yet powerful concept this week: staying above reproach. What does that mean? It means that you earn the trust of those around you by behaving in ways that prove you are trustworthy. Building trust is essential to building a circle of family and friends that you can rely on. Are…

Helping others – Close your eyes and hold on tight

Blog, RelationshipsBy adminMarch 10, 2016Leave a comment

It might be a weird source for learning life lessons, but I think the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas has an awesome lesson for us. In short, the Grinch has a heart that is two sizes too small. But once he “puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore” and figured out that helping others is…

Stay curious

Blog, Health, RelationshipsBy adminFebruary 17, 2016Leave a comment

Staying curious is my vaccination against sleepwalking. It’s so simple! Keep reading and I’ll tell you what I mean. One of my greatest fears is that I will become a sleepwalker. I’m talking about a life sleepwalker. I never want to be stagnant. The life where I wake up, go to work, get home, snap…

You have enough time for things that matter, maybe.

Blog, RelationshipsBy adminFebruary 11, 20161 Comment

I write this post for two main reasons. One- I want to encourage you and two- I need to remind myself to take this advice because I slip here often. There’s a big push for improving productivity right now, especially with all the apps and programs we can use. Doing more in less time seems to…

Two things to improve your circle of influence

Blog, RelationshipsBy adminJanuary 27, 2016Leave a comment

I’ve learned two ways to help you improve your circle of influence and I want to share them with you today. So, we’ve talked about the importance of intentionally forming your circle of influence, but let’s go further and get practical on HOW to do that. Remember the concept that “you are the sum of…

About the Author

Welcome to End Average! I'm your host, Ryan Hansen.
I share lessons from my personal experiences as a father, husband, and leader. I spent 16 years as a missionary kid living in Europe, and then served 8 years in the military in Psychological Operations. My education includes an MBA and years of training in communication and relational skills, including conflict resolution and team building. The combination of these life experiences and education gives me a unique perspective on the reasons people everywhere live in a loop of mediocrity their whole lives. Join me as I share my journey to becoming the husband my wife deserves, the father my kids need, and the Christian God intends me to be. Let's end average together.
